ABOUT ME

🧑‍💼 Who is Miguel Atares?

I’m a 25-year-old Research, Development & Innovation Technician in the food industry, with a degree in Biotechnology and a Master’s in Food Safety and Innovation from the University of Zaragoza.

I’m an energetic, analytical, and extroverted person. I enjoy training at the gym and doing high-intensity workouts like HIIT. On weekends, I love spending time with my girlfriend, family or friends — but during the week, I’ve spent the last year studying every evening to become a Data Analyst.

This mix of science, curiosity, and a passion for improvement defines who I am — both professionally and personally.

I chose Biotechnology because I wanted to do something meaningful with my life. I was fascinated by genetics and microbiology. But as I went deeper into the academic world, I realized research wasn’t the path for me — years of lab work and thesis writing with limited practical impact didn’t match what I envisioned.

So I decided to pursue a more applied role in the private sector, earning my Master’s and landing a job in R&D&I before even finishing it. At first, it was exciting. But over time, I felt limited. I wasn’t learning, I wasn’t being challenged, and I couldn’t grow or prove what I am really capable of.

That’s when I started exploring other paths. After some trial and error, I took a Python course… and something clicked. I fell in love with the tech world and all its possibilities. Then I discovered the role of Data Analyst, and it felt like everything I was looking for:

Real impact on business decisions
📊 Storytelling and Data transformation
🧠 Business Intelligence tools (DAX, Power BI, SQL…)
🗣️ Communication, logic and statistics

It is the perfect blend of creativity, technical skills, and strategy, finally finding my path.

My skill set, mindset, and lifestyle are all aligned with what a Data Analyst needs.

1️⃣ First – I build my own projects
I never take a course and just move on to the next one. — I’ve spent most of my time building independent projects with each technology I learn and truly understand how things work. I believe growth happens when you’re forced to figure things out on your own.

2️⃣ Second – My job already gave me key analyst skills

✔️ I work with complex technical and regulatory knowledge: food legislation, labeling laws, functional ingredients, safety protocols, etc.
🗃️ I regularly manage and query databases like Calidalia or Access. While most users rely on basic filters, I write custom SQL queries to get insights others can’t access.
🤝 I’ve mastered cross-department communication:
working with departments like:
  • Marketing (claims and branding)
  • Export (international requirements)
  • Engineering (technical limitations)
  • Quality (certifications and allergen control)
  • Planning (production timelines and feasibility)
Adapting to each one’s needs has taught me how to translate technical data into actionable information — a skill directly transferable to Data Analytics.

3️⃣ Third – My lifestyle reflects commitment resilience
I work 8–9 hours a day in R&D&I, and then spend 2–3 hours more studying Data Analytics and improving my skills. At 25, I feel like I’ve got the drive of a junior just out of university, but the maturity and discipline of someone who’s already used to pressure, deadlines, and working with others.
